The Advisor position reports to the Head of Organisational Strategy and provides support for MBIE’s organisational strategy and development of other strategic work streams, and that they are well connected and prioritised across MBIE.

Personal specifications

  • Experience in the framework and tools suited to organisational strategy and performance.
  • Strong systems thinking skills able to quickly develop an understanding of context in relation to the requirements of senior leaders.
  • Ability to quickly assimilate new information or areas of work.
  • The ability to assess, collate and analyse information so that it is clear what the issue is, how it affects organisational direction and coherence, and identify what possible solutions or interventions could be deployed.
  • Good communication skills including the ability to write succinctly and think critically about an issue.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, engage, and build relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders and establish credibility with senior leaders.
  • The ability to actively manage multiple work streams at the same time within tight time constraints.
  • High attention to detail.
  • An understanding of MBIE and where the team fits in delivering results.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field and or comparable relevant experience.

Indicators of success

The Advisor Organisational Strategy will be required to deliver results in the following areas:

  • Support the refresh of MBIE’s organisational strategy, employing consultative processes.
  • Support the communication of a refreshed organisational strategy, including weaving it into key learning and development modules.
  • Support development of a strategic plan to implement the organisational strategy, as well as development of regular progress reports to the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Provide support in the design and the implementation of both the pan-MBIE business planning process and the integrated business planning process to ensure alignment to the organisational strategy.
  • Support the review of the organisational strategy to ensure it remains living and fit for purpose.
  • Help design frameworks that turn planning and strategy into action.
  • Help develop performance frameworks and measures, in conjunction with data specialists and information owners.
  • Provide advice to business groups on development of other key strategies and alignment with the organisational strategy.
  • Support the develop of components of MBIE’s key accountability documents in conjunction with key stakeholders.
