The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC)

The Accident Compensation Corporation manages and delivers a comprehensive, non-fault personal injury cover scheme for all New Zealand residents and visitors to New Zealand. The scheme supports injured people to return to work, independence or everyday life as quickly and safely as possible.

Accreditation Council

The Accreditation Council is a user-funded, autonomous Crown entity established as the national body for accreditation of testing and inspection bodies. Its activities contribute to the safeguarding of the health and well-being of New Zealanders and ensuring our products and services meet domestic and overseas regulatory and customer requirements.

AgResearch Limited

AgResearch Limited (AgResearch) is a Crown research institute focused on supporting the pastoral sector through scientific research and development. Its purpose is to enhance the value, productivity and profitability of New Zealand’s pastoral, agri-food and agri-technology sector value chains. This will, in turn, contribute to economic growth and beneficial environmental and social outcomes for New Zealand.

Building Practitioners Board

The Building Practitioners Board is a statutory body constituted under Part 4 of the Building Act 2004. It plays an important role in the Licensed Building Practitioners Scheme, which was launched in November 2007. Its purpose is to encourage competent building practitioners to build homes right the first time.

Callaghan Innovation is a Crown agent that provides products and services to enable businesses to invest more in research, science, engineering, technology and design, so that they can be more successful in the global market.

Chartered Professional Engineers Council

The Chartered Professional Engineers Council reviews and approve rules containing standards for chartered professional engineering, hears appeals on registrations and disciplinary matters and reports on the performance of the Registration Authority (Engineering New Zealand, formerly known as the Institute of Professional Engineers New Zealand).

Commerce Commission

The Commerce Commission is New Zealand’s competition authority and regulatory agency. It is responsible for enforcing laws relating to competition, fair trading and consumer credit contracts, and has regulatory responsibilities in the electricity lines, gas pipelines, telecommunications, dairy and airport sectors.

Crown Infrastructure Partners Limited

Crown Infrastructure Partners Limited (formerly Crown Fibre Holdings Limited) is a Public Finance Act Schedule 4A company that manages the Government’s $1.5 billion investment in ultra-fast broadband infrastructure. It also investigates and implements commercial models which enable co-investment from the private sector (or any other sector) to achieve the Government’s objectives for the deployment of water and roading infrastructure needed for housing development.

Education New Zealand

Education New Zealand is a Crown agent that focuses on growing the economic, social and cultural value New Zealand gains from international education. It works with the international education industry and across other governments to promote the quality of the New Zealand education system and the country's expertise in providing education and training products offshore.

The Electrical Workers Registration Board promotes safety for all New Zealanders by ensuring the competence of electrical workers. The Board enhances electrical safety through improving competency of electrical workers in New Zealand and delivering occupational regulatory good practice.

The Electricity Authority is an independent Crown entity responsible for the efficient operation of the New Zealand electricity market. Its objective is to promote competition in, reliable supply by, and the efficient operation of, the electricity industry for the long-term benefit of consumers.

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) encourages, supports, and promotes energy efficiency, energy conservation, and the use of renewable sources of energy in New Zealand.

The Engineering Associates Registration Board approves registration of engineering associates, exercises disciplinary powers and encourages improved competence and qualification of engineering technologists.

Institute of Environmental Science and Research Limited

The Institute of Environmental Science and Research Limited (ESR) is a Crown research institute providing science advice and services to government agencies, local authorities and the private sector. Its purpose is to deliver enhanced scientific and research services to the public health, food safety, security and justice systems and the environmental sector.

External Reporting Board

The External Reporting Board is an independent Crown entity responsible for developing and issuing accounting, auditing and assurances standards in New Zealand.

Financial Markets Authority

The Financial Markets Authority enforces securities, financial reporting and company law as they apply to financial services and securities markets. It also regulates securities exchanges, financial advisers and brokers, trustees and issuers including issuers of KiwiSaver and superannuation schemes. It will shortly also regulate auditors.

REANNZ (Research & Education Advanced Network NZ Ltd)

REANNZ is the not-for-profit Crown-owned company that owns and operates a high-speed, unrestricted broadband network for the New Zealand education, research and innovation communities.

The high capacity links enable New Zealand researchers to engage on an equal footing with their peers internationally. REANNZ uses its network and expertise to provide a range of other services to members, such as internet connectivity, video conferencing, point-to-point links and advisory services.

Retirement Commissioner (Te Ara Ahunga Ora Retirement Commission)

The Retirement Commissioner is focused on improving New Zealander’s financial literacy so that people can make well-informed financial decisions throughout their lives in preparation for, and during, retirement. The Retirement Commissioner monitors and reviews the effects of government retirement income policies and retirement villages’ legislation. The Commissioner also maintains and publishes a list of approved persons for appointment as dispute panel members.

Takeovers Panel

The Takeovers Panel is an independent Crown agency that regulates changes in the control of widely-held New Zealand companies. It does this through the enforcement of the Takeovers Code. The Panel's aim is to ensure all shareholders can participate in control-change transactions in a fair and informed manner. It also promotes public understanding of takeovers law and practice and recommends any necessary changes.

Tertiary Education Commission

The Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) is a Crown agent responsible for managing the Government’s approximately $3 billion annual funding for tertiary education. As well as allocating funding to tertiary education organisations, the TEC provides information and advice to the Government about tertiary education organisations and the tertiary sector.

WorkSafe New Zealand

WorkSafe New Zealand is New Zealand’s workplace health and safety regulator. Its aim is to achieve a 25 per cent reduction by 2020 of the workplace death and injury toll, working collaboratively with employers and employees. It does this through its enforcement of workplace health and safety legislation, and its comprehensive support and promotion of good workplace health and safety practices.
