Immigration and tourism
This section provides information, resources and guidance on our functions which support immigration and tourism.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, New Zealand set up a Managed Isolation and Quarantine (MIQ) system out of necessity to protect our people.
New Zealand’s immigration system needs to function well within wider labour market, economic, community and security contexts to enhance New Zealanders’ well-being.
We advise the Government on growing and managing tourism in New Zealand, to support our economy and regions. Tourism benefits our local communities and businesses. It supports people-to-people connections and fosters a shared sense of national pride and delivers economic benefits through job creation, regional development, and increased spending in local economies.
We collect, analyse and publish New Zealand tourism data, along with a range of useful tools and publications.
