Petroleum reserves data

This page details New Zealand’s petroleum reserves. It has been compiled using annual summary reports submitted by permit holders.

Timing of 2019 release

NZ petroleum reserves as of 1 January 2019 were released on Thursday 13 June 2019.

The oil and gas production profiles, deliverability, remaining reserves and contingent resources, are all publised by field.

In the Energy in NZ 2019 publication, we will include statistics on activity. This is due to be published in September 2019.

The petroleum reserves document was updated on 20 June. This was to correct the omission of Kowhai contingent resources.

Activity and other field data

Data on activity and other field data is included the Energy in New Zealand 2018 annual publication, which provides information on and analysis of New Zealand’s energy sector including statistics on supply, transformation, and demand.
