Petroleum reserves data

This page details New Zealand’s petroleum reserves. It has been compiled using annual summary reports submitted by permit holders.

Timing of 2019 release

NZ petroleum reserves as of 1 January 2019 were released on Thursday 13 June 2019.

The oil and gas production profiles, deliverability, remaining reserves and contingent resources, are all published by field.

Energy in NZ 2019 was published in October 2019, and included statistics on activity.

The petroleum reserves document was updated on 20 June. This was to correct the omission of Kowhai contingent resources.

Activity and other field data

Data on activity and other field data is included in the annual Energy in New Zealand publication, which provides information on and analysis of New Zealand’s energy sector including statistics on supply, transformation, and demand.
