Since its establishment in 2015, MBIE has funded the University of Waikato to manage, maintain and develop the operations of the Science Learning Hub, which includes content development, IT infrastructure and outreach activities. It has had significant impact on the science and education sector, by making science learning resources more accessible and increasing teacher confidence in teaching Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects.
Funding of $1.2m per year is committed to the Science Learning Hub to 30 June 2028.
The Science Learning Hub engages more students in STEM and aims to encourage more people to pursue STEM career pathways to ensure a workforce that can support future economic growth and innovation within New Zealand.
