Given time and resource constraints, selected measures only are shown in the TEIC for this first wave of DVS results. The selection of these measures was based on a similar prioritisation exercise carried out for the International Visitor Survey (IVS). The intention was to give the DVS results a similar look and feel to the IVS. Over time, we will expand the range of DVS results available on TEIC. Users who wish to explore the data in more detail can access the accompanying microdata.

As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting tourism research, this page provides the Domestic Visitor Survey (DVS) microdata for users who wish to explore the data in more detail. See the accompanying data dictionary on this page.
Data format
The data are in comma separated value (CSV) format as tables that are copies of the database views used by our analysts. This format is the most efficient way of organising the survey data as a database and is aimed at specialist researchers with statistical tools and skills.

| activities.csv | Provides details of activities done by respondent during their visit from the last 6 months for overnight and day trips. Multiple responses possible. |
| barriers.csv | Details expected barriers to overnight and day trips in the next 6 months. Multiple responses possible. |
| demography.csv | Provides non-single response question answers detailing respondent's demographical information. Multiple responses possible. |
| itinerary_daytrip.csv | Details of where the respondent stayed or will stay on their day trip. |
| itinerary_overnight.csv | Details of where the respondent stayed or will stay on their overnight trip and the number of nights |
| maori_cultural_experience.csv | Provides details of how respondents experienced Māori culture. |
| maori_cultural_sentiment.csv | Details respondent sentiment on how they found Māori culture. |
| motivation.csv | Details respondent reasons for travel. Multiple responses possible. |
| satisfaction_daytrip.csv | Provides details of the respondent's rating of their day trip in the last 6 months. |
| satisfaction_overnight.csv | Provides details of the respondent's rating of their overnight trip in the last 6 months. |
| source_of_information.csv | Details respondent sources of planning information used in last six months. Multiple responses possible. |
| spend_daytrip.csv | Provides respondents' spending during their day trip by category, such as flights, food and drink, or transport in last 6 months. |
| spend_overnight.csv | Provides respondents' spending during their overnight trip by category, such as accommodation, food and drink, or transport in last 6 months. |
| transport_method.csv | Provides details of the different transportation methods used by the respondent in last 6 months. Multiple responses possible. |
| travel_party.csv | Provides details of the travel party the respondent was in for the overnight and day trip in last 6 months. |
