Domestic Visitor Survey
The Domestic Visitor Survey (DVS) measures insights into both peak and off-peak domestic tourism (intentions, behaviours, and experiences) in New Zealand.

This release presents results from the second wave of the DVS conducted in April 2026. It presents New Zealanders’:
- Domestic travel experiences over the last 6 months (from October 2025 to April 2026).
- Intentions to travel domestically over the next 6 months (from April 2026 to October 2026).
- Decision making processes used for planned travel in the next 6 months.
The next DVS, based on data collected in October 2026, is planned for release in early 2027.

Note on future developments
Regional level analysis is possible through access to the survey microdata, and MBIE is currently developing regional DVS outputs for future publication. MBIE is also undertaking additional cohort analysis and expanding the range of measures available through the Tourism Evidence and Insights Centre (TEIC). These enhancements are planned for release ahead of the next DVS publication.
