We’re responsible for advising the Government on energy efficiency and renewable energy policy for New Zealand. The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) is responsible for implementing programmes to improve the energy efficiency and increase the use of renewable energy by New Zealand homes and business.
To improve the experiences and outcomes for MBIE people, customers, and stakeholders, MBIE gains insight from our people, explores workforce and remuneration data, and reviews the impact of actions taken. This informs what we keep, stop, start, and adjust with our new action plan.
The government has committed $28 million to support community-based renewable energy projects to help households afford and secure the energy they need. This fund supports the government’s effort to build energy resilience in communities.
At MBIE we value our people, and strive to reflect, embrace and nurture the communities we serve, including developing and maintaining our capability to engage Māori and understand Māori perspectives.
The Māori and Public Housing Renewable Energy Fund was set up in 2020 to trial renewable energy solutions that aimed to improve energy affordability, and help create warm, healthy and energy efficient homes.
Workforce data supports evidence-informed decision-making by helping MBIE identify patterns in employee experience, representation, recruitment, progression, and workforce capability.
Understanding our people’s experience helps MBIE identify opportunities to strengthen leadership, workplace culture, and workforce systems. Insights from workforce data, employee feedback, unions, employee-led networks, and Māori capability partners inform initiatives that strengthen employee experience, workforce capability, and organisational effectiveness.
