We oversaw a diverse mix of initiatives to help our people, sectors and regions thrive and adapt to changing national and global environments.
We are inviting proposals for the He Ara Whakahihiko Capability Fund Rangapū Rangahau funding mechanism. Rangapū Rangahau invests in work programmes that strengthen capability and networks by building new connections between Māori organisations and the science, innovation and technology system (SI&T).
This section of the annual report provides a commentary on MBIE’s 2019/20 financial results, including the impact of COVID-19, and a view of our forecast financial plans for 2020/21.
Through the 2026 Ara Whaihua funding round of the He Ara Whakahihiko Capability Fund, we received 57 proposals. The Government is investing in 19 work programmes that focus primarily on the pathway to commercialisation and/or economic growth from excellent science.
MBIE was one of the first New Zealand government agencies to face the challenges of COVID-19 given the presence of our offshore visa processing office in Beijing, which needed to be shut down back in January. Since then, we have played an integral leadership role in supporting the Government's ‘Response’ effort and the ‘Recovery’ and ‘Rebuild’ components.
This Investment Plan outlines the policy context for the He Ara Whakahihiko Capability Fund. Up to $8.6 million (excluding GST) is available to fund successful proposals in each investment round.
Everything we do at MBIE is about Growing New Zealand for All. We recognise that a strong economy is one in which we use the skills, knowledge and time of our people in conjunction with our natural resources, and financial and physical capital to improve the wellbeing of current and future generations. We worked closely with Treasury to shape and deliver the Government’s Economic Plan which sets out the action needed to transition New Zealand’s economy to one that is productive, sustainable and inclusive. Our five outcomes outlined in our Statement of Intent show how MBIE aims to support sustainable economic performance and build an economy that improves wellbeing across New Zealand.
