The electricity system is going through a period of change and we need to get the settings right. Government is focussed on enabling a sustainable transition to an expanded and more renewable electricity system that empowers New Zealanders to make the switch to clean power. Affordable and reliable electrification will play a critical role in supporting New Zealand’s international climate commitments.

Measures for transition to an expanded and highly renewable electricity system
MBIE previously consulted on whether there was a need for additional electricity market measures to support the energy transition. Consultation occurred between August and November 2023. A total of 80 submissions were received.
