Our Trade and International team is responsible for overseeing standards and conformance infrastructure in New Zealand and advising the Government on related policy.
We are proposing to amend the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 and the Gas (Safety and Measurement) Regulations 2010 so they reference up-to-date standards and reflect the latest international certification and conformance regimes.
In December 2017, the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs directed us to check that New Zealand’s conformance infrastructure is effectively supporting the economy, the well-being of people and the environment.
Our 2012 review of New Zealand’s standards policy and infrastructure resulted in the Standards and Accreditation Act 2015 which changed New Zealand’s standards system.
New Zealand’s conformance system plays an important role in our communities and economy.
