The New Zealand Institute for Advanced Technology is New Zealand’s public research organisation dedicated to investing in advanced technology research and supporting its commercialisation for the benefit of New Zealand's economy.
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has been invited to nominate a limited number of participants for Singapore’s Global Youth Scientists Summit (GYSS) on 4-10 January 2026. The conference will be in-person in Singapore.
In 2018 a mid-way review of the National Science Challenges concluded with the Science Board agreeing to fund all 11 National Science Challenges at the maximum funding amount. This amount was set by Cabinet in 2013 for 1 July 2019 – 30 June 2024, and brings the total investment to $680.8 million.

Through the 2026 Ara Whaihua funding round of the He Ara Whakahihiko Capability Fund, we received 57 proposals. The Government is investing in 19 work programmes that focus primarily on the pathway to commercialisation and/or economic growth from excellent science.
The Government is investing in a Natural Hazards and Resilience Platform. The purpose of the platform is to enhance New Zealand’s resilience to natural hazards so we can better prepare, respond, and recover from natural hazard events.
In 2015 Bragato Research Institute received $12.5 million (excl GST) to establish and build a Blenheim-based research institute over a 5.5 year period from June 2017 to December 2022.
