Previous charging rates
In this section you will find the relevant charges for a 14-day period of isolation. This only applies to people who stayed in MIQ for 14 days, or those who entered before 14 November 2021.

Even with national quarantine and isolation moving back to the health system in July 2023, you may still be required to pay for your stay in MIQ.
Note: People who entered into MIQ shortly before the change were not kept for the full 14 days and were pro-rated to the length of time they stayed in MIQ. This applies to both sets of returnees.
For example if you arrived on 4 November 2021, you would have been released on 14 November 2021 and charged for 10 days rather than 14, pro-rated to the daily rate at the time.
Citizens, residence class visa holders, and critical health workers
The fee (including GST) for NZ citizens and residence class visa holders, and critical health workers is:
- $3,100 for the first or only person in the room
- $950 for each additional adult
- $475 for each additional child (3-17 years old, inclusive)
- children under 3 years old are not charged.
If you are liable to pay, you will be charged per room.
Temporary visa holders charges
The fee (including GST) for temporary entry class visa holders is:
- $5,520 for the first or only person in a room
- $2,990 for each additional adult
- $1,610 for each additional child (3 to 17 years old, inclusive)
- children under 3 years old are not charged.
Charges by room
If you arrived prior to 1 January 2022, the number of rooms you used during your stay in isolation will impact your charges. Depending on when you entered MIQ, you would have been charged using the rates on this page, or the current fee rates.
Each adult in the room who was considered the “first adult in the room, will pay the highest charge. For example, If you had 2 adults and children, who are all New Zealand citizens and in 2 rooms, the charges are:
2 adults, 4 children in a family travel group (2 rooms)
Room 1
Individual 18+ years old (charge = $3,100)
- First individual in first room
Individual 3-17 years old (charge = $475)
- Second individual in first room
Individual under 3 years old (no charge)
- Third individual in first family travel group
Room 2
Individual 18+ years old (charge = $3,100)
- First individual in the second room
Individual 3-17 years old (charge = $475)
- Second individual in the second room
Individual under 3 years old (no charge)
- Third individual in the second room
Total charges liable:
$7,150 = (($3,100 + $475 = $3,575 (room 1) + ($3,100 + $475 = $3,575) (room 2))
