The 2025 Major Events and Tourism Package will grow international visitor numbers, deliver economic growth, and position New Zealand as a major events and tourism destination.
The Events Boost Fund is a one-off $10 million fund which aims to increase international visitation and drive economic activity in the short-term through supporting the growth and promotion of events.
The $50 million Regional Events Fund is designed to stimulate domestic tourism and travel between regions through holding events. This is intended to support the tourism and events sector, and replace some of the spending from international tourists due to the border closure as a result of COVID-19.
Tourism Businesses, Inbound Tour Operators, and Regional Tourism Organisations received funding through the Strategic Tourism Asset Protection Programme (STAPP)
Payments made through the COVID-19 Consumer Travel Reimbursement Scheme.
The IVL is a $100 levy that is charged to most international visitors to New Zealand. It aims to address current challenges in the tourism and conservation systems.
The Government has announced a $5 million investment in a new Centre Court roof for Auckland’s Manuka Doctor Arena, as part of its work to maintain events and tourism infrastructure.
The Regional Events Promotion Fund (REPF) provides $5 million over 2 years to support the promotion of regional events to the domestic market. The fund is contestable and aims to encourage regional dispersal and increase visitor spend in the regions with an additional focus on encouraging seasonal dispersal by promoting events outside of the peak summer season.
The Regional Tourism Boost Fund (Round 1) was a contestable fund which provided $3 million to support regions to attract more international visitors and encourage their dispersal around the country.
The Government has confirmed the first wave of event funding under Events Boost Fund and Event Attraction Package, supporting a range of music, sports, arts and cultural events starting in 2026.
