The Healthcare and Social Assistance sector is fundamental to the health and wellbeing of the people of Otago. The services provided, and the quality and retention of those services, are of the utmost importance to urban and rural communities alike, and also for attracting new residents to our region.
Tāmaki Makaurau is home to approximately a quarter of the Māori population of Aotearoa. The majority of Maōri living in the region are urbanised; disconnected from their hapu, iwi and whenua and the identity and strength this provides them.
Some clear themes have emerged over the past year as we have put in place policies, projects and people to help us Grow New Zealand for All. We are operating in a fast-changing world and our economy must be able to respond as quickly. We need to be future-focused, innovative and collaborative to meet this challenge.
Funding and other resources are important for making new things happen, and sustaining and extending what is already happening.
