MBIE is a large ministry entrusted with a big responsibility – to grow New Zealand’s economy and to share the benefits with everyone who lives here. MBIE is working towards delivering an integrated approach to both regulation and service delivery, leveraging our size and scope.

The tourism industry is a complex, broad and multidimensional network that is deeply connected to and integrated with all aspects of Aotearoa New Zealand society. To really understand how the system works, we have cast the net wide in terms of the materials we have reviewed and the people we have engaged with.

Industry Transformation Plans

The Government committed to stopping ITPs as part of the National-Act Coalition Agreement and its 100-Day Plan. ITPs were developed for 8 sectors: Advanced Manufacturing, Agritech, Construction, Digital Technologies, Fisheries, Food and Beverage, Forestry and Wood Processing and Tourism. Work on Industry Transformation Plans has stopped, and the Government’s commitment completed.

Research, Science and Innovation (RSI) Workforce Surveys

MBIE conducted 2 surveys to collect information about our RSI workforce. The surveys were designed to better understand the demographic characteristics, skills and workplace practices of people who contribute to our RSI system as well as the challenges they face.
