Update 20 July 2025 This update highlights the critical role infrastructure needs to play in growing New Zealand’s economy. Good roads, schools, hospitals and other forms of infrastructure are essential in the modern world. Between now and the end of the year, $6 billion of government-funded construction projects are getting underway. They will not only improve infrastructure but create and sustain jobs from Northland to Southland.

In 2018 a mid-way review of the National Science Challenges concluded with the Science Board agreeing to fund all 11 National Science Challenges at the maximum funding amount. This amount was set by Cabinet in 2013 for 1 July 2019 – 30 June 2024, and brings the total investment to $680.8 million.
We received 137 applications for Research Programmes funding in the 2024 round of the Endeavour Fund and 19 were approved for funding. We also continue to fund 73 Research Programmes awarded in previous years.
This report outlines significant activities and achievements across 2022/23. It reflects the efforts of our many kaimahi/employees, who are proud of the services and results they deliver for the people of Aotearoa New Zealand.
