10 years of New Zealand’s Space Agency

It’s hard to believe how quickly the last ten years have passed. While New Zealand’s space story stretches back much further, the past decade has seen our sector grow in strength, capability, and ambition. That progress has been led here at home by our space companies and universities and strengthened through close collaboration with our international partners. We’re grateful for the support of all of our partners.

On behalf of NASA, I want to congratulate the New Zealand Space Agency on 10 years of space exploration. In just a decade, you've built a strong and innovative space ecosystem, and advanced commercial launch and scientific collaboration, and the responsible use of space. The U.S. has benefited directly from your capabilities, including a growing collaboration in Earth observation and launch partnerships, having launched more U.S. launches outside of the U.S. than anywhere else in the world. As one of the earliest signatories to the Artemis Accord, you've made an enduring commitment to our shared values and helped strengthen our vision for this next great era of exploration. We're proud to partner with you and look forward to delivering on our world-changing mission together as we continue to explore Earth, build the moon base, and head to Mars.

Kia ora to everyone. On behalf of the European Space Agency, I wholeheartedly wish a happy 10th anniversary to the New Zealand Space Agency and many happy returns. My warmest congratulations extend to all teams for their achievements.  New Zealand's strategic location, which informed ESA's decision to launch its Celeste mission from its territory, is a true asset. It strengthens the capacity to deliver space-based services across the Pacific region. These are undoubtedly dynamic times for New Zealand's space sector. Its niche approach to innovation, the commercialization of space activities, and its pioneering regulation are a source of inspiration for all. I'm looking forward to the conclusion and implementation of our cooperation agreement. All the best to the New Zealand Space Agency for the decades to come.

Kia ora. Congratulations to the whole team at the New Zealand Space Agency for your 10th anniversary. It is an important and noteworthy milestone. New Zealand is an integral part of the global space community. New Zealand is part of the Artemis Accords family, like Germany. We have a long history of successful cooperation in scientific research for peaceful purposes. Research activities with colleagues at the German Aerospace Center have deepened connections within our respective research and commercial space communities through collaboration on globally relevant projects. Just last year, we, the German Space Agency, planned to set up a laser ranger in New Zealand, but the weather was a little bit too cloudy. Nevertheless, I am more than confident that in the future we will come up with outstanding joint projects. We look forward to a continued trusted partnership and wish you the very best for the next decade and beyond.

On behalf of JAXA, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the New Zealand Space Agency on the occasion of its 10th anniversary. I had the honour of meeting with Prime Minister Luxon in 2024 and visited Christchurch and Auckland, meeting with the wonderful colleagues from the New Zealand space sector.
