Tēnei tūranga – About the role
MBIE is the lead agency for major events, including the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023. The Major Events FIFA Office has been established within the Major Events Team to ensure Aotearoa New Zealand is set up to support FIFA to deliver a seamless, world-class tournament and to realise the benefit of co-hosting the largest women’s sporting event in the world.
The Advisor role is a vital fixed-term position reporting to the Special Projects Lead, working in the Major Events FIFA Office. The Advisor will support, coordinate and/or lead key workstreams across the FIFA project with a specific focus on Crown Leverage and Legacy. This will include working closely with the Leverage and Legacy Lead, having key relationships with core government agencies, the New Zealand-based FIFA entity and industry stakeholders, and coordinating projects and activity to realise the benefits of hosting the tournament for Aotearoa New Zealand and all New Zealanders.
The Advisor will bring a positive, can-do attitude to the team, have strong relationship management skills, excellent written and oral communication skills and diligent attention to detail.
This role is ideally based in Wellington (other locations considered for the right candidate) and is for a fixed-term or secondment until 30 September 2023.

Delivering project work, building and maintaining strong systems across the Major Events FIFA Office
- Owns or contributes to specific project work.
- Produces robust analysis, recommendations and contributes to advice to the Special Projects Lead, senior officials and Ministers.
- Effectively developing and maintaining constructive relationships with key stakeholders and government agencies.
- Identifies opportunities to achieve the government’s outcomes to drive benefits for Aotearoa New Zealand and all New Zealanders.
- Has an eye for risk and is able to quickly identify key issues, and can find solutions.

- Supports the FIFA projects reporting requirements and ensures that relevant information is up to date and on time.
