The Senior Business Systems Advisor plays a cross group role in managing vendors, coordinating technical change, managing business change, providing expert advice and web experience guidance for our business stakeholders as they take their digital service offerings to the public.

Leading the conversation across a wide variety of stakeholders this role focusses on the strategy detail, design and implementation plans for digital programs of work across all parts of Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery.

The Senior Business Systems Advisor is recognised by a wide group as the conduit for the escalation of issues out to our vendors, troubleshooting and optimisation. The Senior Advisor holds a wealth of organisational knowledge of our wider business environment in the context of the technology change we are bringing about for the Ministry and our Public Audience.

Personal specifications

  • You will have at least ten years’ experience in a comparable Business Systems Advisory role.
  • You will be a technical expert and trusted advisor to a diverse stakeholder base.
  • You will be self-managing, work under a broad strategy, and planning self-initiated activities.
  • You are a subject matter expert for technical, content and experience driven issues with business systems, including websites and APIs.
  • You will show strong evidence of transformational change experience.
  • You must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.

Technology Outcomes

  • You are managing the business support for a diverse base of MBIE systems and websites, minimising business (BAU) issues, and ensuring stakeholder outcomes are achieved.
  • You manage the business and vendors to maintain platforms and websites, ensuring that they provide robust and secure delivery of services to the public.
  • You will oversee the development of a clear understanding of what our stakeholders need now and in the long-term in relation to their websites and systems.
  • You are recognised as a subject matter expert within the Ministry and for your delivery of successful outcomes derived from our programmes of work.
  • You are widely recognised as a trusted advisor for issues around our Digital Footprint.
  • As a subject matter expert within the business group, you're focused on the constant improvement of services and efficiency of cost models within the Ministry.
  • You will develop and manage the development of quality standards and processes across MBIE.
  • You will actively seek out new knowledge for your own personal development or the mentoring and coaching of others.

  • Your relationships with vendors, senior stakeholders, your own leaders, your peers within Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery and Ministerial staff are known to be productive, your communication is professional, clear and timely.
  • You will actively mentor and supervise the Business Systems Advisors within the team and assist them in their continuing professional development.

Technical Specialism

Maintains an in-depth knowledge of specific specialisms and provides expert advice regarding user experiences, technology, business systems and websites. The specialism can be any aspect of information or communication technology, technique, method, product or application area.

Business Process Improvement

Analyses business processes, identifies alternative solutions, assesses feasibility, and recommends new approaches. Helps establish requirements for the implementation of changes in the business process.

Consultancy

Takes responsibility for understanding stakeholder requirements, collecting information, delivering analysis and problem resolution. Identifies, evaluates and recommends options, implementing if required. Collaborates with, and facilitates, stakeholder groups. Seeks to fully address business needs, enhancing the capabilities and effectiveness of MBIE teams, by ensuring that proposed solutions are properly understood and appropriately exploited.

Relationship Management

Identifies the communications needs of each stakeholder group in conjunction with business owners and subject matter experts. Translates communications into specific tasks. Negotiates with stakeholders at all levels, ensuring that MBIE and government policy and strategies are adhered to.

User Experience Evaluation

Advises on achievement of usability (including accessibility) of specific visual design approaches and their suitability for different audiences. Advises on what to evaluate and type of evaluation. Manages evaluation of websites or systems to assure that required practice has been followed, and systems in use continue to meet MBIE and user needs. Evaluates vendor designs and proposals including wireframes and mock-ups. Ensures that the results of evaluations are understood by system developers. Influences design teams to act on the findings of usability tests.

Wellbeing, health and safety

  • Displays commitment through actively supporting all safety and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Ensures own and others safety at all times.
  • Complies with relevant safety and wellbeing policies, procedures, safe systems of work and event reporting.
  • Reports all incidents/accidents, including near misses in a timely fashion.
