Tēnei tūranga – About the role
The Operational Policy Service Design (OPSD) team is a shared service within the Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery Group (TWSD). This means that the advisor will work with a range of teams within TWSD and across MBIE on a variety of projects. The advisor will plan, design, develop and implement policy changes and improvements, and provide operationally-grounded policy advice informed by insight into customers and businesses we interact with. They will contribute to the development of operational policy and procedures to ensure that TWSD develops and maintains high quality, innovative and user-centric regulatory practices. The role will provide TWSD input to policy advice projects and lead or participate in policy implementation initiatives, including translation of legislation and policy into practice.

Personal specifications
- Demonstrated general problem identification and solution skills and ability to develop robust solutions that are viable for government; technically possible and desirable for users and the community.
- Excellent oral, written and visual communication skills: demonstrated competence in effectively communicating complex ideas visually, orally and in writing to a wide variety of audiences.
- Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and relationship management skills.
- Knowledge of public sector requirements and processes relating to legislation and regulatory change.
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. design, social sciences, economics, public policy, law) and/or experience in one or more of the following: interpretation and application of legislation, and operational policy functions.
- Must be a NZ citizen or hold a residence class visa.

Policy analysis
- Sets policy advice in a broad context, and conducts analysis with the medium and longer term in mind.
- Apply standard frameworks, principles, tools and approaches to the analysis of policy issues.

- Gather, analyse and assess key information and evidence from a variety of relevant sources.
- Establishing a sound base of content knowledge.
