Tēnei tūranga – About the role
This position leads a team of Project Coordination with the purpose of delivering consistent people growth, modern delivery techniques with reliable, dependable and expedient outcomes.
The Capability Lead – Project Coordination will work closely with their assigned business units and be cross functionally orientated within the Partnerships and Programmes Branch as well as the broader DDI Group. This will be on a daily basis and include building strong working relationships built upon trusted advice and successful delivery.
They will also work closely with the relevant portfolio and business relationship managers for successful delivery of both ICT projects and business projects with an ICT component.
The Capability Lead – Project Coordination is expected to be a project coordination expert and spend approximately 50% of their time on project delivery themselves, whilst the other 50% will be on team management and growing capability.
This role in conjunction with the other Capability Leads and the Head of Project Capability will be responsible for raising the overall maturity of MBIEs Project Coordination practice by defining processes, standards, and policies and growing the capability for both the MBIE internal and contingent workforce of Project Coordination.

- In depth knowledge and 5+ years’ experience in Project Coordination.
- You are a Project Coordination Subject Matter Expert with the intent of managing people capability.
- You are both a Leader and a Mentor, and like to coach people help them be their best.
- You have confidence in your Decision Making and are structured in how you manage capability growth.
- You are well networked and respected.
- You have a tertiary qualification in a relevant subject.
- You have shown an ongoing commitment to own professional development.
- Ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships and develop trust, credibility, buy-in and collaboration with managers, staff, vendors and other stakeholders.
- Proven ability to develop trust and credibility with peers.
- Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written particularly business writing and reporting.
- Should have legal rights to love and work in New Zealand.

- You are managing the delivery of Project Coordination services for your allocated business units providing the delivery interface for business units and stakeholders across risk, compliance, strategy, process and resource.

- Both you and the team are adding value to the wider Ministry by genuinely taking ownership of the system it delivers.
- You are focussed on the improvement of the team’s capabilities across all the project coordination aspects of Solution Delivery.

- In conjunction with other Capability Leads and the Project Management Practice area you will contribute to raising the overall maturity of the MBIE Project Coordination practices.
