Tēnei tūranga – About the role

The Advisor, Office of the Deputy Secretary is responsible for supporting the delivery of strategic advice and operational support to the Deputy Secretary Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery and wider group and to ensure the effective functioning of the group.

The Advisor role supports Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery Group (TWSD) in providing comprehensive business support, advice, and coordination across the group. Specifically, the role contributes to work programme monitoring and reporting, coordinates the branches corporate obligations in terms of Annual Review, Estimates Production, prepares monthly Corporate Reporting, supports branches doing quarterly self-review on corporate policies, and a wide range of general business support including supporting the risk management approach, ministerial services, providing advice and training for the group, and championing health and safety at work.

Responsibilities of this position are expected to change over time as the Office of the Deputy Secretary responds to changing needs. The incumbent will need the flexibility to adapt and develop as the environment evolves.

Critical areas of success

The role has responsibility to support the operational efficiency and corporate compliance across Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery group including:

  • Supporting Senior Leadership Team and Branch Managers to meet their corporate obligations.
  • Provides business management support for compliance monitoring and reporting including monthly corporate reporting, quarterly self-review, monitoring contract management system, coordinating Annual Review and Estimates process, updating statutory delegations document, coordinating on monthly performance measure results update.
  • Identifies areas for continuous improvement in group’s business operations processes.
  • Supports branches Business Managers to build capability in their business advisory function to achieve business outcomes.
  • Ensuring consistency in corporate policies compliance is maintained across the group.
  • Supports other business functions in the Office of the Deputy Secretary as required including ensuring the Director and Deputy Secretary remain up to data and aware of any potential risks.

  • Participates as an active team member and contributes knowledge and expertise needed to achieve MBIE’s outcomes.
  • Develops effective working relationships with other MBIE managers and staff to transfer knowledge and learning from the team to the wider organisation.
  • Builds and maintains effective relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, as necessary, to identify and share best practice information and to promote the Ministry, its products, and services.
