Tēnei tūranga – About the role
The Business Advisor role in the Office of the Deputy Secretary, Strategy and Assurance, supports the group by providing comprehensive business support, advice, and coordination. Specifically, the role contributes to work programme monitoring and reporting, coordination of group reporting, and a wide range of general business support including supporting the risk management approach, process improvement, providing advice and training for the group, and championing health and safety at work.

Personal Specifications
- Highly developed analytical and conceptual thinking ability.
- Capable of developing alternative pathways to achieving outcomes.
- Competency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
- A proven track record of experience in providing high quality coordination and business advisory services in a large organisation.
- Sound relationship management skills.
- Excellent written and presentation skills.
- Excellent organisational ability.
- Experience with delivering accurate, high-quality work under tight deadlines.
- Sound planning skills and ability to multitask.
- Familiarity with government reporting material such as Statements of Intent and Departmental annual reviews is preferred but not essential.
- Political acumen and sound knowledge of Parliamentary and government structures and processes.
Prerequisites
- Equivalent experience is essential.
- Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
Takohanga tuhinga o mua – Key accountabilities and deliverables
Planning, Tracking and Reporting
- Familiarity with Government reporting documents including Annual Reports.
- Provide the Strategy and Assurance Leadership Team with a consolidated view of key cross-branch deliverables.
- Identify and analyse any critical dependencies between annual operating plans and make recommendations for actions to respective managers.
- Establish and maintain tracking measurements, reporting progress against branch plans and deadlines.
- Coach and support staff across Strategy and Assurance in our ways of working.
Resource Management
- Assist General Managers as required with the preparation and monitoring of cross-group plans.
- Maintain risk and issue registers.
Project Management/Business Support
- Undertake small scale business/process improvement projects as required.
- Provide staff guidance in the use of templates.
- Establish consistent practices and standards to monitor and report on compliance.
- Supporting the group leadership team to meet their corporate obligations including compliance monitoring and reporting including monthly corporate reporting and assisting where required across the branch on various projects.
- Maintains and seeks to continuously improve group processes, ensuring they are aligned to MBIE policies.
- Ensure the Business Continuity plans, and related documents are updated on a regular basis.
- Keeps the Leadership Team and group team members informed of upcoming obligations (e.g. LT dashboard).
