Reporting to the Test team Lead, the Test Engineer will play a key role in ensuring Quality aspects of our systems and solutions are delivered to a high standard to achieve the desired business outcomes. The Test Engineer will be responsible for developing and executing test cases to verify product functionality, as per product specifications. 

The role will play an integral part in the defining and implementing of test strategy, building test suites and improving internal processes to deliver best services.

The Test Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Playing a key role in projects from the planning phase to shift the Test efforts by understanding the business solutions to build the right test tools and automation frameworks to aid testing.
  • Effectively identify what’s relevant to automate and can build automation approach that is fit for the purpose.
  • Working with release managers, business users and the wider team to determine the release readiness.
  • Lead and contribute to discussions that are based on test coverage metrics.

Personal specifications

  • At least five years’ experience of working as a Test Engineer in ICT teams who is proficient with coding skills and passionate in automating repetitive tasks to gain efficiencies.
  • Experience in building custom Test Automation frameworks from scratch that validates API, UI layers of a solution and can be reusable across the organisation for various projects by putting Test Pyramid concepts into practice.
  • You’re capable to build centralised repository of Automation test metrics that are accurate and provides timely feedback.
  • Ability to think through the desired outcomes, context before writing the code.
  • A solid understanding of Object-Oriented programming development practices and experience with C#, Groovy etc. and scripting languages like JavaScript.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve technical problems and implement innovative testing solutions by following best practices in code health, testability, and maintainability.
  • Has demonstrated experience working in Integrated SaaS products environment.
  • Hands on Experience in using CI tools like Jenkins, Azure DevOps, and Bamboo and you’re pro with code versioning tools branching and committing code following the right standards maintaining code quality.
  • Ability to achieve Test Traceability through Automation execution results linking back to test cases and user stories.
  • Take ownership for the Automated Regression test failures and ensure the tests are reliable and maintainable.
  • Provide inputs to integrate security, scalability in to development and integration pipelines.
  • Sound communication skills – both verbal and written particularly business writing and reporting, ensure your communication is always clear and concise.
  • Willing and able to adapt new priorities as necessary.
  • Commitment to growth and curious to be involved in wider initiatives, discussions that improves overall quality across the organisation.

Qualifications

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • Agile and DevOps delivery methodology/experience is desired.
  • Certification or equivalent experience which can demonstrate your coding capabilities.
  • Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.

  • Able to set up, configure and manage automation tools on machines and be competent with using IDEs such as IntelliJ, Eclipse, Pycharm, Atom or similar.

  • Take responsibility for the test tools, artefacts that you create and ensure they’re following the standards to minimise rework/re-factor efforts, maximise reuse.

  • Overall, be a key player in improving release frequency, confidence in software releases through set of Integration tests, automated functional checks that can run autonomously on demand to provide valuable execution metrics.
