Tēnei Tūranga – About the role
The Team Leader, Accounts Receivable provides leadership of the Accounts Receivable team and support to the Manager, Credit Control in order to deliver a consistently high standard of customer service and receivables continuity. Through regular monitoring of transactions and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, the role ensures MBIE maintains a positive profile.
The Team Leader, Accounts Receivable will oversee a team whose focus is the delivery of accurate and timely invoicing to internal and external stakeholders.
This role is responsible for building and enhancing the overall capability of the team, while also working in partnership with the Manager, Credit Control to provide an exceptional service and provide leadership capability support to the Manager.

Personal specifications
- A minimum of two years experience in managing high performing teams
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to create a motivated environment and a positive team
- Experience in accounts receivable and debt management roles
- Experience in having operational ownership of a financially focused business processes with wide ranging stakeholders
- A strong and proven track record in customer service in financially focused business processes
- Experience in managing multiple business processes at various levels of maturity and making continuous improvement
- Experience and ability of understanding and meeting Financial Accounting requirements in relation to Accounts Receivable and Debt management
- Applying technical expertise backed by evidence of analytical ability
- Well-developed communication and relationship management capabilities
- Effectively communicates technical information to a wide range of audiences
- Managing conflicting priorities and ensuring that commitments, complaints, or problems are addressed within an efficient and acceptable timeframe
- Working collaboratively with participants across MBIE
- Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand
- Credit check required.
Takohanga Tuhinga o mua – Key accountabilities and deliverables
Lead and manage the Accounts Receivable Team
- Day to day oversight and leadership of a team of Finance Operations Officers in line with the direction of the Manager Credit Control
- Establishes clear accountabilities, expectations and performance standards with direct reports and ensures regular performance management and development occurs
- Monitors individual and team performance to ensure that business objectives are met
- Ensures invoice requests and queries received from various MBIE stakeholders are triaged and processed according to agreed timeframes
- Ensuring both Departmental and Crown Invoicing and receipting are operating effectively
- Proficiently manages all queries that are raised by external parties in relation to invoice payments
- Coaches, mentors, and develops team members to meet the needs MBIE now and in the future
- Ensures consistency across the team in terms of best practice and actively works to develop and improve practice
- Oversees the actions of the team to undertake to ensure effective and timely action of payment of invoices, enquiries, and requests for support.
Relationship management
- Participates as an active team member and contributes knowledge and expertise needed to achieve programme and project outcomes
- Develops effective working relationships with executives, other managers, staff, and relevant stakeholders
- Represents whole-of-Ministry views and protects its reputation in external interactions with organisations MBIE requires relationships with
- Tests the effectiveness of stakeholder relationships using a range of appropriate measures and processes (including stakeholder feedback)
- Understands, leads, and communicates stakeholder outcomes
- Evidence that the needs and priorities of the Team, Unit and Branch are appropriately represented in team outcomes.
Controls/Risk mitigation
- Responsible for the Accounts Receivable team following appropriate controls and they are clear on the rationale
- Ensure all control points/reports are spot checked monthly and reported to the Manager, Credit Control
- Identifies areas of risk and proposes solutions to the Manager, Credit Control
- Ensures all Accounts Receivable processes are documented and reviewed for accuracy.
Business continuity
- Bank account receipting is completed to SLA
- Accounts Receivable team adhere/exceed standard turnaround SLA for all core operations
- Provides support to the Accounts Receivable team to ensure deadlines are met.
Reporting
- Accounts Receivable bank account tracking sheets are reviewed weekly and outstanding items are addressed with the relevant team member
- Accounts Receivable reconciliations are run in accordance with month end/year end processes. Aged items investigated and resolved/documented within the month
- Provides daily/weekly reporting of team outputs to be shared with senior leadership
- Identifies strategies, work programmes and performance targets for the team with supporting measurement, monitoring and reporting mechanisms and proposes plans to the Manager, Credit Control.
