Tēnei tūranga – About the role

The Systems Accountant is a specialist team member position in MBIE. This position will bring expert business understanding and perspective to work in partnership with their manager, other members of the systems team and other staff within MBIE. Together with the rest of the Systems team, this position will be instrumental in the delivery of the financial systems work programme which includes maintaining and developing financial systems software (including the FMIS, managing user access and security and ensuring the integrity of data, thus meeting the Finance and Performance group’s and business’s strategic need.

Prerequisites

  • Tertiary qualification in accounting supported by two years relevant is essential. Preferably studying towards or holding Chartered Accountant/Associate Chartered Accountant status with the Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand or a recognised international equivalent; and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Must consent to and satisfactorily complete a credit check if requested.
  • Must have the right to live and work in New Zealand.

Takohanga tuhinga o mua – Key accountabilities and deliverables

Systems accounting

The Systems Accountant will be required to deliver results in the following areas:

  • Implementation of new financial systems as well as upgrades to existing financial systems.
  • Financial data integrity.
  • Financial system administration functions including month end and year end processes, interfaces, chart and project ledger maintenance, system security, user setup and maintenance, budgeting and forecasting model maintenance.
  • Maintenance and development of automated processes e.g. cost allocations, interfaces to and from external systems of Development and maintenance of reports and queries.
  • Help desk facility for users and user training.
  • Maintenance of user schedules and maintenance of licenses with contractual limits.
  • Effectively critique requests to ensure the request aligns to one system, one process, one source of the truth principal.

Planning, tracking, quality, change control and reporting

  • Adherence to Systems service delivery life cycle methodology, including planning, requirements gathering, solution design, build and configuration, testing and deployment, ensuring high levels of documentation are created and maintained at each stage.
  • Adherence to best practice change management principles.
  • Analyse interfaces and critical dependencies between projects and recommending appropriate actions to the project process owner.
  • Ensures full system testing has been undertaken before any modifications are put into production.
  • Ensures testing is coordinated and completed within a specific timeframe.

Relationship management

  • Participates as an active team member and contributes knowledge and expertise needed to achieve MBIE’s outcomes.
  • Develops effective working relationships with other MBIE managers and staff in order to transfer knowledge and to the wider organisation.
  • Builds and maintains effective relationships and partnerships with national and international organisations (as required) to identify and share best practice information and to promote the Ministry, its products and services.
  • Tests the effectiveness of stakeholder relationships using a range of appropriate measures and processes (including stakeholder feedback).
  • Encourages and maintains appropriate internal and external working relationships.

Wellbeing, health & safety

  • Displays commitment through actively supporting all safety and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Ensures own and others safety at all times.
  • Complies with relevant safety and wellbeing policies, procedures, safe systems of work and event reporting.
  • Reports all incidents/accidents, including near misses in a timely fashion.
  • Is involved in health and safety through participation and consultation.
