Tēnei tūranga – About the role
The Senior Business Advisor role provides senior advisory capability to the Employment Services Branch across a wide variety of areas. The role ensures that information disseminated within and outside of the Branch, is accurate and of high standards including Ministerial servicing. The Senior Business Advisor is responsible for supporting the branch and support as required across a range of topic and deliverables.
The Senior Business Advisor assists with the design, implementation, maintenance and delivery of Branch governance and performance monitoring activities, including governance reporting and will assist with wider design and delivery of business initiatives to meet Employment Services strategic direction and business plan objectives.

Personal specifications
A proven track record of experience and achievement in:
- Ability to quickly assimilate new information or areas of work and come to an understanding of unfamiliar and complex issues.
- Proven ability to develop frameworks, and manage systems and processes.
- Strong quality of business writing, including understanding policy and legislation and ideally ministerial servicing.
- Ability to quickly identify ways of thinking about the problem or issue and possible pathways forward.
- Proactively identifying key relationships and possessing an ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships.
- Good written and general communication skills.
- Proven ability of work with Quality Management Systems and ISO accreditation.
- Proven ability to develop trust and credibility with managers and staff.
- Demonstrated commitment to effective client servicing and the ability to liaise with all levels of staff within the Ministry.
- Ideally, an understanding of the public sector environment including the performance, reporting and financial management regime.
- Ideally, an understanding of the processes that underpin the operations of the public sector environment, including Cabinet and parliamentary processes, accountability and reporting.
- To be considered for this position you must have a legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
Qualifications
- A relevant qualification is desirable and/or comparable relevant experience in Business writing, operational policy and business advisory.

Contributing to the day to day work of the team
The Senior Business Advisor will be required to deliver results in the following areas:
- Providing business group input to central performance, reporting, risk management, business continuity planning, and continuous improvement processes.
- Providing senior level business advisory capability and support as required for the Manager, Business Advisory Services, General Manager and the branch (in coordination with other business advisors / analysts) and the relevant teams in Employment Services to help strengthen the overall capability of the branch.
- Providing quality and consistent advice, services and practices across the branch.
- Be responsible for accurate and timely delivery of OIA’s, Privacy Act, Ministerial servicing and media requests within legislatively required timeframes to meet accountability obligations for internal clients, Ministers, Cabinet, Parliamentary Select Committees and other stakeholders.
- Monitoring trends in the work you undertaken and bring issues to management’s attention in a timely manner.
- Preparation of branch, group and portfolio accountability documents, for example estimates documents as required to support Branch reporting requirements.
- Delivery of business advice that actively supports and contributes to the achievement of the Ministry’s outcomes and that delivers to the needs of internal and external stakeholders.
- Support the ERA Support Manager in facilitating requirements as relate to the ERA operations.
