Tēnei tūranga – About the role
Reporting to the Capability Lead - Quality Assurance & Testing, this position will be responsible for delivering planned testing activities including BAU application fixes identified during the analysis and design phases. This role will be responsible to identify, report and document issues and risks that matter to business teams and customers by performing exploratory testing and by producing appropriate levels of documentation.
In addition, it will be responsible for providing regular reporting and identifying all risks associated with the testing and will make assessments and provide advice on the practicality of testing process alternatives to mitigate risks.
The position will support the team to deliver the software solutions by applying best practice methods in software testing. The Senior Test Analyst will bring their subject matter expertise, business, legislative and technical knowledge, and perspective to work in partnership with project and operational teams to support day to day operations.

Personal specifications
- Extensive and broad experience in a testing capacity and ability to work within a challenging, high profile and complex testing environment.
- Understand the bigger picture and business objectives behind the technical solutions being built to align your test approach and testing efforts.
- Has awareness of various test techniques that help accelerate software testing without compromising quality.
- Has demonstrated experience working in integrated SaaS product environments.
- Experience with technical testing tools (e.g., API and database query tools.
- Ability to write acceptance tests from user stories or requirements.
- Understanding the various testing considerations for the non-functional requirements of a solution being built and tested.
- Understanding of context driven test practices, exploratory test techniques, and continuous testing concepts are highly desired.
- Understanding of different delivery methodologies/exposure is desirable.
- Understanding of ICT functions, environments, business practice and systems from government operating model perspective.
- A desire to learn non-functional testing skills, including automation and performance testing. Ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships and develop trust, credibility, buy-in and collaboration with managers, staff, vendors and other stakeholders.
- Ability to influence and lead work through others to get the best outcomes where direct reporting relationships do not exist.
- Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written particularly business writing and reporting, ensuring communication is always clear and concise.
- Ability to change and adapt to new priorities as necessary.
- Commitment to growth with a curiosity to be involved in wider initiatives across the testing community is desired.
- Must have lived in a 5Eyes country for a minimum of five consecutive years.*

Qualifications
- A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent knowledge, skills and work experience.
- Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
- Must be able to obtain a National Security clearance.

Test Outcomes
- Identifying and analysing issues and risks that can impact systems and customers.
- Effective, clear, and concise communication of issues in a language that is apt for stakeholders.
- Conducting appropriate testing and investigation of system issues and resolutions.
- Providing reporting, analysis, test scripting and as required, user acceptance testing of new and or enhanced business systems and processes.
- Ensuring the right level of test coverage is achieved to provide Go-Live recommendations.
- Present results of testing in a way that shows understanding and interpretation of impacts and consequences for all parties.
- Identifies improvements to the process and completes all defined, assigned test activities.
- Ensure that MBIE maintains best practice alignment with ICT and NZ Government industry standards.
- Responsible for the creation of test artefacts such as test plans, update reports and test exit reports.
- Contributes to the coaching and mentoring of other team members.
