Tēnei tūranga – About the role
Reporting to the Manager ICT Asset and Supplier Relationships, this position is an external facing specialist position, leading supplier relationship management across MBIE ICT by establishing effective governance across all ICT vendors.
Supplier Relationship Managers leads by collaborating across the ICT Asset and Supplier Relationships unit and with other ICT units particularly Technology Strategy and Architecture and the Services, Platforms and Operations unit. They focus on improving supplier performance, value for money and deriving savings.
They set up and enable effective governance by guiding the MBIE ICT people involved with the purpose of improving supplier performance, value for money and deriving savings. They engage with suppliers over the commercial aspects of service failures, system availability problems and performance problems to resolve compensation and penalty issues.
The Supplier Relationship Manager also takes responsibility for the development and implementation of supplier relationship management (SRM) framework. They lead the building of relationships with suppliers, role modelling the behaviours and coaching on the techniques inherent in the SRM framework.
The Supplier Relationship Manager will:
- Lead supplier strategy development in collaboration with colleagues in the ICT Asset and Supplier Relationships team.
- Incorporates MBIEs technology strategy and architectural frameworks into supplier strategy development.
- Lead continual development, management, education, training, assurance, and review of the supplier relationship management framework.
- Develop the supplier relationship management methods and tools used across MBIE ICT.
- Plan the implementation of the relationship management framework and arrange all the activities and tasks associated with that implementation.
- Monitor, measure, and report on the implementation, advising management on the status, costs, issues and risks of the implementation.

Personal specifications
- In depth knowledge and 7+ years’ experience in Commercial Contract Management, Vendor or Partner Management, Sales or Account Management.
- Proven strategic thinker who can take others through the process of planning and implementing road maps for transforming Supplier Relationship Management practice.
- Ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships and develop trust, credibility, buy-in and collaboration with managers, staff, vendors and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in ICT commercial contract management.
- Demonstrated ability to work with vendors and internal stakeholders to gain best outcomes.
- A working knowledge of the legal frameworks in which the contract resides.
- Negotiation skills experience.
- Coaching and mentoring experience.
- Proven ability to develop trust and credibility with senior managers.
- Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written particularly business writing and reporting.
Qualifications
- A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience.
- Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.

- Takes responsibility for the development and implementation of the supplier relationship management (SRM) strategy to support the strategic requirements of business groups (in collaboration with colleagues).
- Leads the development, implementation and ongoing refinement of a fit for purpose for the supplier relationship management framework (in collaboration with colleagues).
- Ensures that the significant suppliers are delivering the services MBIE requires and that this is a value for money arrangement.
- Takes responsibility for significant contract reviews. › Leads the creation of supplier relationship management implementation plans.
- Arranges governance of supplier relationship management putting in place the appropriate levels of reporting and monitoring.
- Takes responsibility for championing supplier performance improvement across costs, service levels, system availability metrics and ease of doing business.
- Actively works with teams and individuals to adopt and implement supplier relationship management disciplines and take responsibility for the development and delivery and training of the framework to ensure consistent practice.
- Takes guidance from and provides input into technology strategies and architectural roadmaps in collaboration with the Technology, Strategy and Architecture unit.
- Leads the commercial communications, and the management and maintenance of the relationship between the organisation and the supplier.
- Measures and reviews the implementation of the supplier relationship management framework and makes assessments about its effectiveness, efficiency and value for money.
- Reports on implementation progress against the plan, highlights success, raises exceptions and reports on the management of issues and risks.
- Support development and implementation of processes and tools to create benchmarking. › Ensures lessons learned from reviews are documented and promoted with colleagues, stakeholders, and the organisation.
- Champions continuous improvement programmes with suppliers, that meet MBIE’s requirements for value from investment and quality assurance.
- Provide assistance in procurement and commercial discussions with vendors with the purpose of deriving the commercial and economic performance from our contracts with suppliers.
