Tēnei tūranga – About the role
The Platform Manager has a holistic view of Cloud hosted and On-Premise Information Technology Enterprise platforms. This view is focused on Business Services and the underlying Cloud and On-Premise platform technology components that support and provision these services.
The role operates in two key area.
Business as usual operational support to ensure end-to-end robust service delivery.
Involvement in the build, configuration, testing and commissioning of Information technology systems as determined by a Programme/Project pipeline of work.
Key relationships:
- All Managers and staff in MBIE but especially other teams within the Digital, Data and Insights Group (DDI).
- Business Stakeholders.
- External providers.
- The DDI Senior Leadership Team.
- Staff in other NZ Government agencies.
Ngā herenga – Requirements of the role
Personal specifications
Knowledge and experience in using ICT methodologies to manage delivery of services to internal stakeholders in the government sector.
Able to demonstrate skills in directing and motivating peer and partner information technology professionals. Experience in the implementation of and support of Enterprise class ICT systems.
Demonstrated technical skills and experience working in the following areas:
- Azure Cloud with strong experience in Azure Core services, IaaS, and PaaS. Experience with AWS is also beneficial.
- Azure Active Directory.
- Administration of Microsoft 365.
- Networking management and troubleshooting in Azure Cloud (Firewalls, DNS, Routing etc).
- Designing, developing, and implementing solutions in Azure cloud.
- Infrastructure as a Code. Experience with automation and scripting (Azure DevOps, PowerShell, ARM, JSON or Terraform etc).
Qualifications
- A relevant tertiary qualification or extensive work experience.
- Possess, at a minimum, foundation Azure Certifications e.g. AZ104.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development with a particular focus on attaining and maintaining MS Azure and AWS professional certifications.

- Contributing to the day-to-day work of the team. The Enterprise System Management Team manages new capability and expansion of services on MBIE’s key shared ICT platforms and ensures MBIE technology remains fit for purpose. In addition they ensure that support frameworks, management and monitoring of systems remains appropriate in line with changing business requirements.
- Involved in the delivery of Information Technology services, products and programmes that actively support and contribute to the achievement of the Ministry’s outcomes and that deliver to the needs of internal and external stakeholders.
- Work closely and in a consultative way with other Information Management Professionals such as Enterprise, Domain and Solution Architects, Operations, Cybersecurity professionals, Project Managers and Technical Business Analysts.

- Helps develop and enhance customer and stakeholder relationships.
Problem management
- Initiates and monitors actions to investigate and resolve problems in systems and services.
- Assists with the implementation of agreed remedies and preventative measures.
Availability management
- Provides advice, assistance and leadership associated with the planning, design and improvement of service and component availability, including the investigation of all breaches of availability targets and service non-availability, with the instigation of remedial activities.
- Plans arrangements for disaster recovery together with supporting processes and manages the testing of such plans.
Service acceptance
- Engages with technical design and project managers or Project Management Office, to ensure correct products are produced, in a timely fashion.
- Evaluates the quality of project outputs against agreed acceptance criteria.
Wellbeing, health and safety
- Displays commitment through actively supporting all safety and wellbeing initiatives.
- Ensures own and others safety at all times.
- Complies with relevant safety and wellbeing policies, procedures, safe systems of work and event reporting.
- Reports all incidents/accidents, including near misses in a timely fashion.
- Is involved in health and safety through participation and consultation.
