The Technical Advisor is MBIE’s Digital Data Tools (DDT) subject matter expert and assists in the interface between MBIE and the suppliers of DDT products and services. 

The position is part of the team that enables data and information users to extract value from the Ministry’s data and information assets through the provision of services and tools to find, transform and save data and information for effective decision making. Such value includes making connections across the Ministry’s diverse landscape and proactively linking information to multiple potential users. 

The Technical Advisor monitors and manages the application of design and accessibility standards for the Ministry’s DDT implementation and co-ordinates processes between stakeholders and suppliers during the delivery of solutions. 

The Senior Technical Advisor also co-ordinates the reporting, prioritisation, resolution and testing of DDT bugs and issues. The Senior Advisor proactively scans the DDT environment and related environments looking for opportunities to improve the team’s offerings.

Ngā herenga – Requirements of the role

Personal specifications

  • Some experience in developing, testing and supporting web-based solutions, using tools such as Microsoft PowerApps, to government standards of accessibility
  • Experience with HTML, CSS and Content Management Systems (CMS) such as SharePoint or Silverstripe.
  • Knowledge of Scripting /programming languages such as Javascript would be an advantage, as would experience with Google Analytics, particularly GA4, and Google Tag Manager
  • Ability to communicate technical issues to laypeople
  • Understanding of the key technical architectures, solutions, software platforms and toolsets used by the Internet.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build trust and on-going relationships across the Ministry.
  • A passionate learner, always keen to pick up new skills and understand new ideas.
  • Creativity in finding solutions, flexibility to deal with a range of tasks
  • You should have a tertiary qualification in a related subject or a history of relevant experience.
  • You must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand and be able to satisfy the Ministry’s security clearance requirements.
