Tēnei Tūranga – About the role

The Criminal Proceeds Case Coordinators will contribute to and be a member of the operations team of the Criminal Proceeds Management Unit. They will administer and manage Criminal Proceeds restrained assets cases, as well as carry out fieldwork on behalf of the Official Assignee. They will enforce orders from the High Court and carry out the duties of the Official Assignee under the Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Act 2009.

Personal specifications

  • Understanding of the statutory functions of the Official Assignee under the Criminal Proceeds Recovery Act 2009 legislation
  • Must have proven practical experience in a regulatory environment
  • Proven strong asset and case management skills
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills
  • Must pay meticulous attention to detail
  • Possess the ability to build and maintain working relationship with stakeholders, service providers and other enforcement agencies
  • Must be able to demonstrate robust planning and organising skills, including ability to maintain performance when under pressure, critical assessment of work-flows, and appropriate prioritisation of work
  • Be flexible when there is over-night travel required for operations outside of Auckland
  • Have a full clean NZ drivers licence
  • Be able to clear a credit check and police check
  • Approve costs relating to operations and field work
  • Attend briefings and appear in Court if required to provide evidence
  • Comply with the CPMU team business objectives and team vision including what MBIE represents and sets out in the Government Business Plan
  • Must be eligible to be granted security clearance and hold a warrant with delegated powers of the Official Assignee NZ
  • Adhere to the ISO 9002 Quality assurance and management certification, internal and external audit requirements in the administration of each case
  • Attend and be available for all compulsory Health and Safety, including MBIE policy trainings
  • A tertiary qualification or equivalent practical experience
  • Be eligible to work in NZ full time
  • Must be able to gain and maintain Security Classification, level confidential
  • Must hold or gain practicing certificate/warrant, Deputy Assignee Warrant
  • Must be a NZ citizen or hold a residence class visa.

Takohanga Tuhinga o mua – Key accountabilities and deliverables

Delivers High Quality Criminal Proceeds Administration

  • Administration of criminal proceeds cases, asset management and risk matters on all restrained and forfeited assets
  • Record, receipt and report on confiscated assets, the management of any risk issues
  • Instruct agents and service providers to coordinate uplifts, disposals, movements and maintenance of all restrained assets in custody and control
  • Approve invoices, update the asset management system, complete file reviews of and coordinate field staff to attend operations
  • Carry out field work with field agents and service providers to label and identify, seize, return and realise restrained assets under the Criminal Proceeds Recovery Act 2009.
  • Assist with monthly reporting and audit requirements for internal and external clients including collection and collation of data, identification of standard failures and reporting on why they occurred
  • Engage and liaise with legal counsel and Crown Solicitors on matters concerning restrained assets with any issues
  • Ensure accuracy of the CPMU database is maintained
  • Report and update regularly to the CPMU Team Leader
  • Contribute to any CPMU projects.
