The Data & Insights Analyst within the Corporate Systems & Reporting Team will be responsible in engineering data for regular reporting to satisfy performance measures across P&C and MBIE. Working with other Analysts at different levels within the Team, they will collect and interpret P&C data, analyse the results, and assist with any technical development to streamline processes. Then report back the results as required to the relevant members of P&C and MBIE.

Reporting to the Manager Data and Insights, they will ensure that P&C data is delivered in the most efficient way and that the information provided is accurate and trusted. Including the ability to foster an open, collaborative environment that encourages quality, innovation, and ongoing knowledge sharing.

Personal specifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification preferred and/or comparable experience.
  • Proficient in Transact-SQL or similar with a minimum of 2 years’ experience; BI experience desirable.
  • Good understanding of data and insights practices.
  • The capability to analyse large, complex issues and readily grasp and assimilate the ideas, analysis and advice produced by others.
  • Proactively identifies key relationships and possesses an ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships, through trust and credibility.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to present complex issues in a way that engages the audience.
  • Experience in an HR environment desirable.
  • Must be a NZ citizen or hold a residence class visa.

Data and Insights analysis

The Data and Insights Analyst will be required to deliver results in the following areas:

  • Contributes to ensuring P&C related data provides meaningful insights to MBIE about how to manage its people and resources.
  • Contributes to the automation and self-service of P&C reporting whenever possible and appropriate including enabling opportunities the Data Warehouse team presents.
  • Maintains data integrity to the highest-level ensuring P&C data is trusted throughout MBIE.
  • Continually looks to improve and enhance the reporting available to help drive people data insights.
  • Supports ad-hoc projects that require significant amounts of understanding of people data, data analysis and/or report development, through SQL and/or Business Intelligence.
  • Maintains an understanding of P&C data and integration and continues to build ongoing trust in P&C information.
  • Providing P&C information to key stakeholders in a regular and ad hoc basis to aid thinking and inform decision-making.

  • Uses data management techniques to effectively carry out work.
  • Contributes to meetings, including where matters are, sensitive, or require solutions.
  • Seeks guidance where required and uses initiative to highlight risks and coordinate work with others.
  • Prioritises the business needs for the development and implementation of new reporting requirements as and where needed.

Communication and relationship management

  • Build strong relationships with P&C managers and teams/managers across MBIE.
  • Participates as an active team member and contributes knowledge and expertise needed to achieve P&C and MBIE outcomes.
  • Collaborates with the wider P&C branch to ensure relevant information is shared across teams.

Wellbeing, health and safety

  • Displays commitment through actively supporting all safety and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Ensures own and others safety at all times.
  • Complies with relevant safety and wellbeing policies, procedures, safe systems of work and event reporting.
  • Reports all incidents/accidents, including near misses in a timely fashion.
  • Is involved in health and safety through participation and consultation.
