Government partners with industry to transform and grow digital technologies sector

Published: 11 February 2022

The Government has today released a draft plan that will support the continued growth of New Zealand’s digital technologies sector, helping it to transform and fulfil its huge potential as a generator of high-value jobs and export revenue.

A draft Industry Transformation Plan (ITP) has been framed around three key priorities – creating strong foundations, taking advantage of accelerated growth opportunities, and building Māori participation in the sector.

At the centre of the draft ITP is a detailed action plan that includes a number of initiatives co-designed between industry and government. Areas of interest include development of a new skills and talent pipeline, creation of a Tech Story to be marketed overseas and support for export-orientated sub-sectors, such as Software as a Service and Interactive Media.

The government is now seeking feedback from industry and other interested parties. This feedback will be used to refine the action plan, prior to creating a final ITP that will address both the short-term and long-term opportunities and challenges for the sector.

More information and details on how to have your say on the draft ITP and action plan is available on MBIE’s website.
