The Government is taking action to unlock private investment in hydrogen.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment (MBIE) published an Interim Hydrogen Roadmap (the Interim Roadmap) on 9 August 2023 to test initial positions and proposed actions, on the role of hydrogen as part of New Zealand’s energy transition.

We are consulting on updated Minerals and Petroleum Programmes to reflect recent and proposed amendments to the Crown Minerals Act 1991.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment has been reviewing the Electricity (Hazards from Trees) Regulations 2003 and in May the Minister for Energy Simeon Brown announced 2 amendments to improve safety and security electricity supply.
