Tēnei tūranga – About the role
The Talent Acquisition team is responsible for providing a centre of expertise for MBIE in the delivery of cost effective, efficient, and high-quality operational recruitment delivery and talent acquisition strategy. The Advisor, Talent Acquisition works with the Talent Acquisition Lead, Senior Advisors, and hiring managers to:
- Enable them to run high quality, efficient recruitment processes.
- Understand, influence, and deliver their talent acquisition priorities.

Personal specifications
- Understanding of technical recruitment skills (i.e., behavioural interviewing, knowledge of testing and employment checking etc.)
- Experience providing great customer service, building, and delivering solutions that meet customer expectations.
- Proven ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships.
- Influencing skills.
- Experience with the use of social media for recruitment would be beneficial.
- Experience planning and delivering key pieces of work / projects would be beneficial.
- An understanding of government decision making and recruiting environment would be beneficial.
- Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
Takohanga tuhinga o mua – Key accountabilities and deliverables
Operational recruitment
- Provides advice across all steps of the recruitment process, e.g., attraction & sourcing, assessment & selection, offer management, pre-employment checking etc.
- Coaches and supports managers to run efficient recruitment processes, hiring great people.
- With the aid of the Senior Advisors, helps to design efficient processes for hiring managers.
Talent acquisition
Supports the Senior Advisors in developing strategies and solutions to meet the particular talent acquisition priorities / needs of the group by:
- Assisting in the delivery of proactive and innovative sourcing strategies and campaigns, with a particular focus on social media.
- Understanding and establishing networks in relevant markets to actively identify and engage with talent.
- Contributes to the design and implementation of initiatives to support MBIE’s employer brand.
- Champions the use of technology (both existing and new) to improve the recruitment processes for candidates, managers and the talent acquisition team.
- Uses information and data to understand what is working and look for areas to improve.
- Keeps up to date with, trends in the market in which you recruit as well as the wider talent acquisition field.
Talent acquisition projects
- Supports the Senior Advisors to ensure key projects and pieces of work within your portfolio are well planned and actions are delivered according to plan.
- Contributes to other projects within talent acquisition team as appropriate.
- Clear objectives and performance measures are developed, and work is reviewed to determine effectiveness and lessons learnt.
Communication and relationship management
- Build strong relationships with hiring managers.
- Collaborates with wider P&C branch to ensure relevant information is shared across teams.
- Communicates well with candidates, as a source of talent for your portfolio, to support MBIE’s employer brand.
Wellbeing, health & safety
- Displays commitment through actively supporting all safety and wellbeing initiatives
- Ensures own and others safety at all times
- Complies with relevant safety and wellbeing policies, procedures, safe systems of work and event reporting
- Reports all incidents/accidents, including near misses in a timely fashion
- Is involved in health and safety through participation and consultation

The Advisor, Talent Acquisition position reports into the Talent Acquisition Lead within the People and Culture branch. The branch sits within the Corporate Services, Finance and Enablement group.
