Tēnei tūranga – About the role
The Legal Executive is a team member position in MBIE. The Legal Executive will bring their business understanding and perspective to work in partnership with their manager and other staff.
The Legal Executive contributes to the operations of the Litigation Business Unit in the Auckland Litigation Team. The team is responsible for managing litigation in the Auckland area.
The Legal Executive is responsible for ensuring quality and consistency of advice and practices in relation to their contribution to the team's work.

Personal specifications
- A proven track record of experience and achievement in:
- Knowledge of litigation practices and processes
- Understanding of Government operating processes
- Experience of prioritising and managing complex workflows
- Knowledge of secretarial and administrative practices
- An understanding of information management methods
- Good appreciation of corporate service delivery
- Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand
- Valid New Zealand Drivers Licence
Takohanga tuhinga o mua – Key accountabilities and deliverables
Critical areas of success
- Co-ordinates management of Legal Services files, under the direction of the responsible solicitors
- Assists in answering general queries that come to Legal Services
- Processes Official Information and Privacy Act requests, disclosure and discovery requests, under direction of responsible solicitor
- Prepares bundles of documents, basic court documents under the direction of the responsible solicitor
- Assists solicitors in organising witnesses for hearing (including summons, expenses, hearing appearances etc)
- Drafts correspondence and other legal documents as directed by the responsible solicitor
- Serves documents and reviews mail and diaries court appearances as required
- Transcription/dictation services
- Delivery of services, products and programmes that actively support and contribute to the achievement of the Ministry's outcomes and that deliver to the needs of internal and external stakeholders
- Assists with other administrative support functions as required, to ensure the smooth running of the whole group
- Undertakes special projects throughout the year as delegated by the Manager
Relationship Management
- Participates as an active team member and contributes knowledge and expertise needed to achieve MBIE's outcomes
- Develops effective working relationships with other MBIE managers and staff in order to transfer knowledge and learning from the team to the wider organisation.
- Builds and maintains effective relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, as necessary, in order to identify and share best practice information and to promote the Ministry, its products and services.
