The Intelligence Support Analyst is responsible for proactively supporting the MBIE Intelligence and Country Research (MICR) through the collection, collation, storage, retrieval, and dissemination of information for intelligence and research purposes. The role entails making critical judgements on initial actions for information requests co-ordination and assists in the development of intelligence products which provide unique insights into risk and value decisions across MBIE’s businesses and New Zealand’s national security systems.

Intelligence Support Analysts work closely with Intelligence Analysts and Researchers, to provide valuable support on Intelligence Products and Research services. As part of this role, you may be required to attend meetings where you will take notes from senior management and external stakeholders.

A ‘one team’ view means that all members may contribute to the wide spectrum of MICR’s work as needs and development opportunities require.

The following skills and experience may be an advantage:

  • Experience in a relevant intelligence, research, or information service field
  • Experience in extracting and collating data
  • Knowledge of security and the management of classified or sensitive information
  • Understanding of MBIE’s economic and social operating environment

Relevant Qualifications:

  • A strong educational background (preferably to a tertiary qualification level), or comparable relevant administrative experience in intelligence, research, or law enforcement and/or experience working in a team support role within a large and complex public sector organisation.

Takohanga Tuhinga o mua – Key accountabilities and deliverables

Provision of quality information

  • Seeking information from both external agencies and other parts of MBIE to assist in the development and improvement of intelligence and research products and services
  • Responding to intelligence and research enquiries regarding intelligence or information holdings from other agencies ensuring accuracy, quality and consistency in advice
  • Managing system administration on behalf of the management team
  • Undertake analysis of straightforward information, compiling customer reports
  • Ensuring information is accurately collated and recorded

Delivery of intelligence products and services

  • Assisting analysts, researchers, and field intelligence officers with the collection and collation of straightforward information to use when developing intelligence products
  • Participating in projects to improve the delivery of intelligence services
  • Supporting the management team to manage requests and information e.g. assisting with initial triage requests from customers, assisting customers provide information correctly and ultimately forwarding to the manager for prioritisation; sharing intel from external agencies within intel and to relevant other MBIE customer groups, compiling figures for reporting purposes as required
  • Providing support – input and documentation – for continued process improvement across intelligence
  • Supporting the accuracy of content on team communication platforms (Te Taura, team sites)

Relationship Management

  • Establishing and maintaining effective relationships that ensure the timely receipt and exchange of intelligence holdings with New Zealand and international agencies
  • Working well with other parts of MBIE to leverage support that will enhance the way intelligence operates, for example, IT security and system testing, sharing knowledge and techniques with other support and co-ordination functions that could interact with intelligence
