The Customer, Design and Innovation (CDI) branch enables and empowers the functions of Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery (TWSD) to ensure that work is planned and prioritised in a way that will deliver on our strategic outcomes and in alignment to financial obligations. The CDI Branch is centre of expertise, delivering a variety of specialised functions across Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery (TWSD). It brings clarity and robust advice to the way work is commissioned and governed.
The Senior Data Warehousing and BI Developer works with the Manager Data Systems to support the ingestion (collection), storage (data warehouse) and curation (management of datasets) of Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery (TWSD) data. They will support development of team members and uplifting internal capability of data collection and storage across TWSD.
With the ability to translate requirements into effective reports and dashboards the Senior Developer Data Warehousing will have a significant impact on the perceived value of the Data Systems team. The Senior Data Warehousing and BI Developer will support the Manager Data Systems and working closely with the members of the team, complete a review of the team's work, stakeholder expectations, comparison with Corporate and Digital Shared Services (CDSS) and financial impacts on the business to help inform a roadmap of future capability and strategic focus areas for the team.
The Senior Data Warehousing and BI Developer works closely with teams in CDSS and across TWSD to understand the needs of business groups and translates these into data models to support their business enablement.

Personal specifications
- Expert knowledge and wide experience across data modelling disciplines with an in-depth understanding of best practice principles.
- You will be seen to be an expert in the field of data and BI development.
- Proven ability at a senior level to lead the design of data modelling from complex data sources.
- Ability to successfully deliver output that meets client needs and supports their business enablement.
- Improve the storage, retrieval and use of data assets of structured, semi-structured and unstructured form
- Proactively contribute and provide data management expertise into analytics and insights efforts
- Support the development data pipeline architecture optimal to advancing the use of analytics and insights
- Construct data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements, some of which are of a large, complex nature
- Identify and drive improvement of processes in automation, optimisation of delivery, scalability of data structures
- Established data engineering professional with track record of leading successful data projects
- Advanced knowledge and experience working with various relational databases, proficiency in query authoring (SQL)
- Knowledge and experience working with a variety of on premise and cloud data warehousing solutions (preferably Azure)
- Knowledge and experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures, data warehouses, data marts and data sets.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain the trust and credibility with senior leaders and stakeholders.
- Sound appreciation of corporate management disciplines, techniques and understanding of Government decision-making and operating procedures.
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field or extensive comparable experience.
- Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.

- Develops and defines MBIE’s approach and practice for data modelling, ensuring high standards of data integrity, quality and accuracy are achieved.
- Ensures MBIE has effective ways to extract and manipulate data that results in meaningful data which empowers wider MBIE.
- Ensure data management / modelling structures are accessible in formats which give MBIE teams the critical insights required for them to be confident in their decision making.
- Engage in a systematic and integrated way and share information with sectors that share strategic interests.
- Ensure the application, integration and use of Te ao Māori and Te ao Māori practices in the work of the Branch and as such MBIE; tikanga, Te Reo and an appreciation of the Treaty of Waitangi, Te Tiriti and the Treaty Principles.
- Foster a customer-focused culture across the Branch.
