Summary

Read more about the changes to Electrical Worker fees.

We are reviewing fees for all electrical workers registration and licensing, and would like to hear from licensed and registered electrical workers.

Fees for electrical workers were last reviewed in 2013 and following this, fees for electrical workers were set to below cost to balance an accumulated surplus in the Electrical Workers’ account. This surplus was as a result of over-recovering costs of activities.

Now that this surplus has been reduced, it is necessary to increase fees for electrical workers to recover costs that were incurred due to lowering fees in 2013. As well as this, we are seeking to improve registration and licensing services, develop and enhance competency training, and maintain IT systems. While these initiatives will add new costs, they are necessary to deliver better value to electrical workers, and to ensure the electrical workers in New Zealand are best equipped to provide New Zealanders with safe and effective electrical work.
