Summary
These metrics provide a snapshot of regulated open banking activity in New Zealand. They show how many accredited requestors are participating and how customer data sharing and payments made through regulated open banking are growing over time.
July data shows continued growth and momentum in the use of regulated open banking, with marked increases across data sharing, payments and accredited requestor participation. This growth is being driven by more organisations offering regulated open banking services and by more customers using them to securely share data and make payments.
In July, more than 19 million requests to securely share banking data were processed. Requests have more than doubled in the 2 month period since May.
More than 408,000 open banking payment requests were processed in July, with a combined value of $130 million. This is an increase of 114,745 payment requests (39% growth) worth almost $38 million (41% growth) since May.
14 organisations have been approved as accredited requestors for regulated open banking under the Customer and Product Data Act 2025. This is an increase of 6 new organisations since May. These organisations can, with a customer's authorisation, securely share a customer’s banking information or initiate payments on their behalf.
- There were 14 accredited requestors at the end of July.
- Three new accredited requestors were added to the Register of Participants during July: Centrapay, Experian and Trail.
- More accredited requestors means more businesses can offer a wider range of consumer products and services using regulated open banking.
- Eleven of the accredited requestors are acting as an intermediary.
- Intermediary accredited requestors act on behalf of other organisations (called “fourth parties”) to request and share data securely, extending the availability of regulated open banking services to more businesses in New Zealand.
- More businesses and consumers are using regulated open banking as a payment option.
- There were over 408,000 successful API calls for payment transactions during July. This represents an increase of 39% from May 2026.

Full data reporting for regulated open banking uptake commenced from May 2026. Reported metrics may change over time. Reporting from data holders is requested for activity by accredited requestors only and regulated APIs.
It should be noted that the figures contributed by a single data holder may, in a very limited number of cases, include the use of non-accredited requestors. This anomaly will be addressed as a priority.
