Search for new Commerce Commission chairperson to begin shortly

Published: 04 February 2022

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has today confirmed that Commerce Commission chairperson, Anna Rawlings, will not seek further appointment when her term concludes later this year.

Ms Rawlings was first appointed in 2014 for a five-year term as a Commissioner, before taking over as Chair in 2019.

During her term as Chair, Ms Rawlings has led the Commission through a period of major growth and change. This has included overseeing the implementation of a new fibre broadband regulatory regime, new criminal enforcement powers for cartels, and implementing the Commission’s new market studies power.

MBIE will begin an open search for a new chairperson shortly.

The Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Dr David Clark will consider candidates before making a final recommendation for appointment to the Governor-General.

Ms Rawlings will continue as Commission Chair until the appointment of her successor following 31 May 2022.
