Published: 27 June 2022

Minister of Tourism Stuart Nash and Associate Minister of Tourism Peeni Henare have announced the sixth round of recipients of the Government’s Tourism Infrastructure Fund (TIF), which supports local government to address tourism infrastructure needs.

This TIF round will invest over $15 million into 62 projects across 34 Councils and community organisations around the country.

For the first time, TIF criteria considered infrastructure to support the delivery and management of Matariki events and 7 Matariki linked projects have been awarded a share of $2.29 million in funding.

This round of funding will provide support for projects that include the building of star gazing platforms, new carparks, public toilets, walking tracks and providing support infrastructure for events like Matariki on the Marae.

Since 2017, the TIF has supported more than 200 projects totalling over $90 million, which have improved the quality of tourism infrastructure for residents and visitors alike.
