Launching the aerospace sector strategy

Published: 05 September 2022

The government today opened consultation on the Aotearoa New Zealand Aerospace Strategy at the inaugural New Zealand Aerospace Summit in Christchurch, with further financial support for the ambitions of the sector also being announced.

The aerospace strategy will set out a pathway to grow New Zealand’s emerging aerospace sector out to 2030.  Funding announcements made today will also allow the government to support regulation of the aerospace sector to ensure advanced aviation technology is safely integrated into  New Zealand airspace.

Also announced at the Summit was the start of the Space Policy Review consultation which begins on 5 September and runs through to 31 October.

The Space Policy Review is an opportunity for New Zealanders to share their views on the values and objectives across a range of interests the government has in space – including economic, national security, regulatory, international and environmental interests.

A summary of feedback report will be produced from the consultation and will assist in creating a National Space Policy – a document which outlines New Zealand’s values and objectives on space to the world. It will also assist in developing future space strategies, policies and regulatory changes; and considering whether any changes are required to the Outer Space and High-altitude Activities Act 2017.”
