Funding boost for Great Rides

13 Great Rides will receive a share of $850,000 investment from Ngā Haerenga, the New Zealand Cycle Trails Fund it was confirmed today.

Nearly $800,000 is for maintaining and enhancing trails, while $53,000 is for repairing trails following damage caused by storms in June and July.

The investment, which is co-funded between government and local communities, will enable maintenance and upgrades to be made to the trails. 

Trail shelters, toilets and trail enhancements like signage and interpretation panels are some of the big-ticket items that will result from the funding.

Extreme event funding allows for urgent repair work following winter storms which damaged tracks.

  • Nelson City Council – Coppermine Trail  
  • Otago Central Rail Trail Trust – Otago Central Rail Trail    
  • Ruapehu District Council – Timber Trail  
  • Tasman District Council – Tasman’s Great Taste Trail        
  • Twin Coast Cycle Trail Trust – Pou Herenga Tai Twin Coast Cycle Trail       
  • Waikato River Trail Trust – Waikato River Trail    
  • Westland District Council – West Coast Wilderness Trail

  • Hurunui Trails Trust – St. James Cycle Trail
  • Motu Trails Charitable Trust – Motu Trails
