Establishment Chief Executive appointed for New Zealand Institute for Advanced Technology

NZIAT has been established to ensure advanced technology delivers meaningful, measurable benefits for New Zealanders – lifting productivity, strengthening industries and supporting economic growth.

The Establishment Chief Executive will oversee this critical foundation phase – putting in place the governance, operational capability and systems required to deliver on NZIAT’s mission from day one.

Andrew Bridgman brings extensive executive experience across central government, including senior leadership roles at Oranga Tamariki, Defence, Justice and Health. Andrew began his public service career in 1991 as a senior solicitor at the Ministry of Māori Development and holds a Bachelor of Laws from Victoria University.

Establishment Chair Steve O’Connor welcomed the appointment, noting the importance of strong, experienced leadership as NZIAT moves through its establishment phase.

“We are very pleased to welcome Andrew Bridgman and delighted to have someone of his calibre and experience at this pivotal stage for the establishment of NZIAT,” O’Connor said.

“Andrew brings the practical leadership needed to guide this establishment phase, and the Board looks forward to working with him in that capacity.”

O’Connor added that work to recruit a permanent Chief Executive is underway. “In a permanent Chief Executive, we will be seeking a leader with deep advanced technology sector experience and commercialisation expertise to drive the NZIAT’s long-term growth and impact.

“This staged approach ensures we build NZIAT on solid foundations, while positioning for ambitious, technology-led leadership into the future."
