Through the 2025 Te Pūnaha Hihiko: Vision Mātauranga Capability Fund funding round, the Government is investing in 15 projects that will strengthen capability, innovation capacity and networks between Māori and the science, innovation and technology system, for the benefit of New Zealand.
Through the 2026 Ara Whaihua funding round of the He Ara Whakahihiko Capability Fund, we received 57 proposals. The Government is investing in 19 work programmes that focus primarily on the pathway to commercialisation and/or economic growth from excellent science.
Five concepts have secured seed funding to develop more detailed proposals for phase 2 of the New Zealand Institute for Advanced Technology’s work to establish a national platform for AI research.
We received 169 applications for Smart Ideas funding in the 2025 round of the Endeavour Fund and 47 were approved for funding. We also continue to fund about 100 Smart Ideas awarded in previous years.
