Material on MBIE Registers is protected by copyright that is owned by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.

Copyright notice for MBIE Registers

MBIE Registers serves as the online platform for a number of registers and online services administered by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. This platform manages applications, registrations and similar matters relating to the following registers:

  • The Motor Vehicle Traders Register
  • The Immigration Advisers Authority Register

Except where stated otherwise, the material on the MBIE Registers system is protected by copyright owned by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) on behalf of the Crown as well as other organisations where registers are maintained on their behalf. This includes system-related content for the above public registers and their respective online services, but excludes any public notices and contents of these registers.

Unless otherwise indicated below, public-facing material on the MBIE Registers online system is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence. This material may be used, copied and re-distributed free of charge in any format or media, provided that:

  • the material is reproduced accurately and not used in a misleading context or derogatory manner; and
  • where the material is used, copyright owner, source and copyright status must be acknowledged with statements such as “© Crown copyright”.

This permission to reproduce material on the MBIE Registers platform that is protected by Crown copyright does not extend to material that is identified as being protected by copyright owned by a third party. This includes material on websites that are linked from MBIE Registers. That material may only be used in accordance with the copyright notice and/or any other terms and conditions on the website concerned.

  • logos, emblems and trade marks on any website or register that uses the MBIE Registers online system.
  • design elements used by websites or registers that use the MBIE Registers online system.
  • any photography or other imagery used by these websites or registers.

Neither the MBIE emblem nor the New Zealand Government logo may be used in any way that infringes any provision of the Flags, Emblems, and Names Protection Act 1981, or would infringe such provision if the relevant use occurred within New Zealand.

Restrictions on access to and use of register information

There are requirements about the purposes for which some registers may be searched and how information on those registers may be used. These requirements are set out in the legislation that establishes each register. 

No register information may be accessed, used, copied or re-distributed for purposes other than in accordance with the relevant provisions in the legislation establishing that register.

MBIE and its agencies do not permit the use, copying, or re-distribution of information held on MBIE Registers that is not available to the public. This information is considered to be private, and may include users’ personal details as well as documentation relating to internal systems.
