We are seeking insights on how we can ensure our capital markets remain dynamic and competitive in the face of market innovations, and feedback on targeted proposals for regulatory change.

About the consultation

MBIE has released a public discussion document for consultation (link below). We seek feedback on:

  • what you think the Government’s priorities for change should be, where New Zealand should aim to position itself in the global competition for capital, and what steps are needed to respond to digital and AI-related innovation in financial products and markets.
  • eight specific areas for regulatory change, including:
    o    Product disclosure statements
    o    Director and issuer liability
    o    Catalist market settings
o    Unlisted Securities Exchange audit requirements
o    Crowdfunding and peer-to-peer lending limits
    o    Wholesale investor settings
    o    Auditor liability
o    Broker activity and visibility of offers.
